In this course, students investigate how rule-based, agent-based, and probability-based design systems have influenced the development of architectural form and discourse. Through a combination of readings, tutorials, and computational design projects, the course explores the theoretical and aesthetic aspects of generative design. Projects critically integrate historical precedents with contemporary digital tools. Design exercises primarily use Python scripting as well as node-based workflows in Rhino Grasshopper, and include a partial introduction to TouchDesigner.

No prior knowledge is required; however, basic knowledge of Rhino modeling and Python is recommended.
