Jared Abraham
Jared Abraham is an educator and architectural designer based in Pittsburgh. He is a faculty member at Carnegie Mellon University’s School of Architecture, where he coordinates the first-year studio Poiesis I, teaches in the Master of Urban Design program, and leads a Core Option Studio focused on affordable housing and adaptive reuse. His work engages design pedagogy, material practice, and housing research, with current projects focused on hardwood CLT as a framework for new workforce housing typologies in Pennsylvania.
Jared’s professional experience includes several years as an Associate at Allied Works Architecture, contributing to award-winning cultural and public projects. He previously held a Post-Graduate Associate position at the Yale Urban Design Workshop, where he worked on resilience and planning initiatives, including Resilient Bridgeport, a Rebuild by Design project developed in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy.
He has held teaching appointments at the Yale School of Architecture and the University of Cincinnati DAAP. Jared holds a Bachelor of Architecture from the University of Oregon and a Master of Architecture from Yale.
Fall 2025 Teaching
This studio introduces students to the fundamentals of architectural design through practices of critical thinking, iterative design methodology, and design agency. Emphasizing form, space and composition, this first-year studio lays the foundation for a rigorous and creative design practice.
This course explores new forms of media and representation in urban design.
Spring 2025 Teaching
This studio aims to entirely re-imagine Pittsburgh’s historic Gulf Tower as an adapted and revitalized civic center that would support a mix of civic, commercial and residential uses in the very heart of Downtown’s Golden Triangle.
This six-week mini course is designed to guide students in creating their personal architectural portfolios.
