Brutalist Buenos Aires: Between Monumentality and Everyday Life

This travel study explored the rise of concrete and Brutalism in Argentina through the analysis of precedents in Buenos Aires. The building subjects of this study defied architectural and conceptual norms for their individual building typology at the time they were constructed and continue to serve as important infrastructural elements for the city despite their age. The Chacarita Cemetery, National Library of Argentina, and Bank of London and South America are a few of the projects that I studied in detail. The research examined how these buildings reflect both the local context and the broader global movement from which they emerged.
About the M.Arch Travel Awards Program
The Master of Architecture (M.Arch) program grants travel awards each spring for selected students to support work grounded in architectural design research.
