Architecture Design Studio: Core 2 — Elements
This studio builds upon the spatial literacy of Core 1 to introduce an intentional, stance-driven design methodology, guiding students from conceptual positioning through rigorous design development to final project narration and visual communication.
This studio builds upon the spatial literacy of Core 1 to introduce an intentional, stance-driven design methodology, guiding students from conceptual positioning through rigorous design development to final project narration and visual communication. Through precedent analysis, students explore the evolution of architectural ideas and develop a fundamental vocabulary of architectural elements. By engaging with a local site, the studio foregrounds architecture's relationship with landform and introduces fundamental considerations of natural forces. Students shift from abstract form to studying how specific human activities and patterns of occupancy inform design intent, learning to translate the requirements of use into the purposeful and expressive composition of space.
