Integrated Building Systems: HVAC, Enclosure & Energy

This graduate course treats the building enclosure, mechanical HVAC systems, and the electric grid as one integrated, coupled system. Students explore carbon and performance accounting, enclosure thermal design and loads, HVAC electrification, and demand-flexibility strategies for a decarbonizing grid. Emphasizing selection logic and quantified trade-offs among energy, operational carbon, thermal comfort, and spatial requirements, the course equips students to design buildings as active, resilient participants in time-varying grid systems.
