This design-research course challenges the traditional boundaries of architectural practice by shifting the architect's role from material consumer to material developer. Embracing the concept of the "Material Alchemist," students will actively research, design, and prototype novel biogenic material composites. The coursework emphasizes a holistic approach to material invention, demanding rigorous consideration of embodied carbon, mass production viability, complex tectonic detailing, and material hybridization. By bridging the gap between material science and architectural design, this course offers a hands-on trajectory for developing the next generation of ecologically responsible building systems.
